Easy Fix: Windows Shift S Not Working in Windows 10/11

Here is an easy fix to Windows + Shift + S not working. Windows + Shift + S is used to capture screenshots of full or part of the screen. However, if you just want to take a screenshot you can use Windows + Prt Src, and later you can crop it in editing.

But this is a temporary fix, to make Windows + Shift + S work again, you can use the following methods.

There are various reasons why this shortcut isn’t working. First of all, you should check are your physical keyboard keys working. Because if they aren’t pressing properly, there isn’t any point in changing settings.

If the keys are working properly, then this could occur because of conflict between  Snipping Tool, Sketch Tool, or the OneNote Shortcuts, let’s resolve this.

#1. Check Snip & Sketch are Enabled or Not


Windows Shift S, not working problem, can also occur if Snip & Sketch aren’t enabled. Make sure to enable Snip & Sketch.

  • Go to Windows Setting (Press Windows + I)
  • Click – System
  • Now, from the left panel, select – Notifications & Actions
  • Scroll down and you will find – Snip & Sketch (Snipping Tool)

Sometimes there isn’t an unwanted cache or bugs in software, because of which Windows Shift S Key might not work.

You can update the app from Microsoft Store, or reinstall it better, here are the steps.

  • Go to Windows Setting. (Press Windows + I)
  • Click – Apps -> Apps and features.
  • Scroll down to find – Snip & Sketch App. (Snipping Tool)

3. Reinstall Snip & Sketch

  • Tap on it and Uninstall it.
  • If the button is grey and the app cannot be uninstalled, then you can try to uninstall programs for Command Prompt or Powershell.
  • Reinstall it from Microsoft Store.

#4. Reset Snip & Sketch


If any of the methods aren’t working, then you can simply go with this method. This could resolve your Windows Shift S not working problem.

  • Go to Windows Setting. (Press Windows + I)
  • Click – Apps -> Apps and features.
  • Scroll down to find – Snipping Tool.
  • Once you find it, Tap on the Advanced Option by clicking on three vertical dots.

4. Reset Snip & Sketch

  • Scroll Down, and tap on – Reset.

  • Once you find it, Tap on the Advanced Option.
