Recently, I was doing a water test on my phone, to see if it was really waterproof as they claim, unfortunately, the test went fail.
Now, the water was inside my phone and I could hear that. In that situation, you have to do something ASAP! As the water could damage your phone severely.
After talking to some people, I got a solution, which is to put the phone, in the rice in an airtight container. I don’t have much time to think, I towel dried my phone, and taken 2-3 bowls of rice in a small container, and put the phone in between.
The phone was there overnight (10 hours) and in the morning, I open the lid and tried to turn it ON, but I couldn’t. Because, the charging was low, after again wiping it, I put it on a charge, and the phone got on, and I was using it as usual.
There are too many negative reviews about this method on the internet, many people say that rice particles can damage your sensors, speakers, or port. But for many people and including me, this method worked.
Here are some of the methods to get water out of the charging port.
1. Dry out the Phone Naturally
This method is recommended by both Apple and Samsung, the method is to dry out the phone.
Here’s Step by Step guide –
- First of all, turn off your phone and remove the sim tray and back cover.
- Then, wipe your phone with a microfiber cloth if available, or a dry cloth.
- Now to remove large droplets, gently shake your device, with a port side down.
- Now put the device flat, with the screen side down in a ventilated area, like near to open window, or in front of the fan. Make sure it gets air and heat but don’t put the phone directly under the sun or use a hairdryer.
- Put the phone in this position for 30 – 60 minutes, to let the phone dry out.
2. Put Your Phone in Rice (Overnight)
Now, this method has worked for me you can also try it out.
Rice is good for soaking moisture, when you put it in an airtight container, they soak the moisture of your phone.
If the moisture has trapped inside the camera, you can see the camera it will look blurry.
Steps to Put Your Phone in Rice (Overnight)
- You need 2-3 Bowls of Rice, an airtight container, and a wet smartphone.
- Put rice in an airtight container, and fill it in half.
- Then put your wet smartphone.
- Then fill the container with rice, keeping your phone in the middle of the container.
- Place the lid – Overnight or for 8-12 hours.
That’s it, after 8-12 hours the water will get out of your charging port.
What You Shouldn’t Do to Take Out Water From Charging Port?
The Internet is filled with tips but many tips you see on the internet aren’t helpful, In fact, they can damage your device.
Here we have collected some of them, if you are applying these tricks then you shouldn’t –
- Don’t Use Hair Dryer – If you are using a hairdryer to remove moister, then you shouldn’t. Because a hairdryer isn’t a vacuum cleaner, it isn’t sucking the air instead it is pushing the water into the device. Also, using it at a high temperature can damage the battery of your device.
- Don’t Shake Your Device – Yes, you can shake gently keeping the port side down but shaking it too roughly can actually cause internal damage to your phone.
- Don’t Use Cotton Swabs, Tissues, etc – As these things don’t pull out water, they just push it inside the phone only.

Although if the charging port seems wet, you can easily tell that water hasn’t gone.
