How to Fix – We Couldn’t Create New Partition (5 Solutions)


#1. Diskpart


Diskpart is one of the oldest methods to resolve partition issues, although the method is effective, the problem is it will delete all your files on a selected hard drive. 

That’s why you should keep a backup of important files from the selected hard drive before using this method.

Steps:


1) To get started, you can use a bootable USB or DVD to run Windows 10/11 or any other windows setup.

2) The error message “We couldn’t create a partition” appears as soon as you click on the next button.

3) Now, search cmd and tap on Command Prompt to open CMD.

4) Then a command prompt will be opened, and enter dispkart there.

5) You’ll see the connected hard drives list and the type list device.

#2. Use Dispkart to Make Your Partition Active

Steps:


1) First of all, all you need to do is launch Windows 7/10/11 setup via bootable USB or appropriate OS bootable DVD device.

2) The error message “We couldn’t create a partition” appears as soon as you click on the next button.

#3. USB 2.0 Flash Drive


If you are installing Windows 10/11 from a USB drive, you might face this problem if you are using USB 3.0

Many users reported that they faced ‘we couldn’t create a new partition’ when installing Windows 10/11 from 3.0, however, if you USB 2.0 flash drive for installing Windows, it will help to resolve such errors.

#5. Convert The Partition (GPT Format)


Of course, Here are the steps to convert the partition into GPT format which is more effective than the MBR partition. Because It is important to understand that MBR partitions have their limitations because they can only work with drives that are less than 2TB in size.

That’s why here we will convert the partition to GPT Format.

Note: Converting partition to GPT format will delete all your files, make sure you have a backup of important files before converting to GPT Format.

Step:


1) Firstly, You start Comand Prompt (Go to search and write cmd, open Command Prompt)

2) Then, Type Start Dispkart and press enter.

3) Now, type list disk and locate the hard drive you want to install.

4) Then, type select disk A. (A is just an example, replace it with the hard disk you will select)

5) Type Clean and press enter.

6) Now, this command will delete all your files, so make sure you have a backup of your important files.

7) Lastly, type convert gpt and just run this command.
