Fractures in the pelvis are very painful. They require a lot more time in recovery than other bone fractures. Pelvis injuries need very care and proper treatment to heal. The pelvis bone helps us in sitting and moving hence both the movements are restricted due to the fracture. Because of the slow healing process, it becomes life-threatening sometimes. Especially for the old age people. Pelvis bone bears a lot of body weight hence it is important to do proper bed rest during the healing time. Today I will tell you how to sit comfortably with a fractured pelvis.

Types of fracture

There are three different types of pelvic fracture. The sitting and the sleeping position are highly dependent upon the fracture type. Following are the type of pelvic fractures:

  • Complete- Here the bone breaks into two parts
  • Displaced fracture- When the Bone is displaced from its original position.
  • Partial- Here the bone does not completely split into two parts.

Know your pelvic area fracture first before attempting any sleeping position.

#1. Use pillow

Use pillow and sit comfortably with a fractured pelvis

Make sure you use the most fluffy, cotton pillow for this purpose. Place a pillow in between your leg and one below the pelvic area. This gives you extra support to sit properly with the fractured bone. It also reduces the body weight from the bone. Of course, If you have a fractured bone, then sleeping is not an easy task for all.

The best sleeping position will be by placing the pillow in between your legs. This will keep your leg straight and will protect you from the unaware body rolling during sleep. This will help you to sit comfortably with a fractured pelvis.

#2. Lay on your back

Pelvic fracture treatment requires time. So I will suggest you do not move much. The more you lay on the bed the less will be the recovery time. Always sleep in the middle of the bed to avoid any contact and unconscious rolling. Also by laying the whole body weight shifts on the back hence your pelvic will remain more burden-free.

Always take someone’s help to get up and do not hurry in getting up or laying down. Fractured pelvic heal for a very long time and sudden movement can increase your pain and the recovery time as well.

First, put your hands on the chair handle and let the whole body weight shift on the hand. Now slowly get up and with the help of another shift on the chair.

The chair should be soft and comfortable. The tiers should be working properly. Do not put weight on the hips in any situation. Always avoid such positions where you will need to sit from the pelvic area.

Fastest ways to heal the fractured pelvic

Medicine, bed rest, exercise, and diet are the only methods to heal a broken pelvic bone easily. Use the prescribed pain killers to lower the pain. Do not consume the pain killers in excess quantity because they can make blood clots in the vein. Take a full protein and fibre diet. Do not go on dieting in the healing period. Do massage regularly once the player will cut. Massage helps to make blood vessels less strained and ensures good blood flow in the body part.

How much time will require to fully recover from the fracture?

The time it takes for the healing process of a pelvic fracture to be completed is usually between fourteen and sixteen weeks. But it also depends upon the diet you are taking and the exercise you are doing. Also, the old age people recover time is way more than the younger ones. A pelvic fracture can heal itself if it is not dislocated from the original place.

Partial fractures can heal with proper diet and exercise only. But still, you have to take the pain killers for some time. Doctors always suggest doing different types of exercises during pelvic fractures. Because it keeps the pelvic bone safe from getting completely stiff. Some light exercises are always good in this situation. But always take suggestions from your doctors.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the pelvic area is very sensitive. The chances of pelvic fractures increase in old age. Because of the low level of calcium in the bones. If you are suffering from a pelvic fracture, then you need to take complete rest as much as possible. Always sleep in some comfortable positions. Because the more you sleep the more your injury will recover.

Proper diet is also important and makes sure you keep the fractured area away from water for at least 3 days. Use painkillers to get better sleep at night. Do not take sleeping pills because they are addictive and have a high risk of heart disease.
